Hello guys. Now, I know the title is probably a bit vague, but I seriously think we don't have enough random discussion.
We may have a few members, and we do have several that can be relied on to stay around and all that. But this board can almost be a graveyard during a lull period!
So here's an Out Of Character discussion for any random topic that doesn't need it's own thread. For random comments about current gameplay, and jokes about the current rate of the story and direction, or just a comment that isn't quite important enough to warrant a thread of it's own.
So a quick question as we get started, merely because I'm constantly surprised by the ammount of people who I don't expect to be involved... Any of you guys doing NaNoWriMo?
(For the Uninitiated, it's National Novel Writing Month. In which there's this whole thing about writing 50k words in thirty days. Check out it's website for more complete info.. Oh, and the month is November. So, like, I'm busy with doing it as well as everything else in life.)
And another question for those that aren't interested in that subject.
What's your favourite success in a mission in Advanced Wars? I know that mine would be in Dual Strike, just before the 'cinematic' which has the bit with Jake talking to Hawke.
That massive three sided battle. I won with Colin/Sasha on one side, Jake/Rachel and Hawke/Lash. You can obviously see I like named Tags. XD

Yeah that fight was fun.
It’s been a while since I’ve played though the games myself, so I can’t really remember all the story missions, but I did always like that second to last story mission in the first Advance wars, where you face Stern for the first time.
And might I ad, Stern is without a doubt the best AW villain. Von Bolt is a joke and Calder is brokenly insane but Stern is made of win.

Uh, Sturm appeared in both first and second, if I remember correctly. So you mean the one in AW II where all the enemy forces were hidden behind Pipes?(I slaughtered them with Grit Battleships in that one.)

Sturm? He was insanely overpowered, but not quite as much as Caulder, I agree. My favourite win moment is when the first time I tried the mission, with Max at the center, Kanbei at the left and Jess at the right (yeah, lol at me if you want), I ended up plowing through the center and almost routing Sturm before killing the Deathray... a whole week before the end of the delay.

My favourite success is on the final map of AW2 too. Colin at the middle, Max at the left, Eagle at the right. Colin was getting pwned, and Max and Eagle both were winning on the sides of the map. Sturm captured Colin's HQ (or nearly, I don't remember) only to get pwned by Max right after (he was too busy bothering with Eagle).

Heh, Powerhousing much, Keitaro?
I remember that map, I had Olaf in the middle, to provide snowstorms, which Sturm is weak against, incidently. I also had Eagle on the right, and ... I can't remember who on the left. I just remember I pawned him with Eagle at the end.
(Also, Likely another couple of days disappearance on my part. XD)

@ shadow: Seeing how much of a noob I was back then, I didn't see another way fire it. Screw tricks, just screw it all. Sturm was one tough cookie, hopefully I had broken Kanbei with me, Max alone wouldn't be sufficient...

I remember at one point when I just kept using Grit. Mainly because I was always inclined towards artillery tactics. I never really did well on just brute force attacks....

I'm still heavily direct-oriented, except on DoR actually, where I make much more indirects.

I love artillery. It's much more fun to strategically outwit your enemy with artillery, rather than swarm their base with Neotanks and Megatanks.

Artillery and infantry mashing is so boring i could actually fall asleep while doing so. Indirects have not enough range to be entirely reliable.

I'm on Keitaro's side on that one... I am clumsy with indirects, so I often choose some mechs and storm with tanks.

I like using Indirects to close off chokepoints and defensive positions, or to attack a newly created enemy at a base.
But it all usually devolves into tank spam eventually though.

Jinn made me realize I forgot the point when I start using indirects (except with Max, who I happen to choose often for obvious reasons): when I stormed through the frontline, in which case I kinda have already won, which is to say I take NO risk with indirects.

Heh, well my speciality is using artillary and rockets to make opponents unable to approach me without taking heavy damage. I do use one or two tanks, usually as a way to prevent the opponent attacking my ranged units.
Then it usually becomes a slow advancing game. Unfortunantly, I'm very rarely fast. >.>
